Dear Graduating Senior and Parent,
Congratulations! In less than two months, your son or daughter will graduate from the Academy of the Canyons Middle College High School. The following information is provided to assist you with the upcoming end-of-the-year activities for your senior student.
4/21 - Mandatory Senior Meeting in Advisement - ALL seniors MUST attend a MANDATORY senior meeting in person on campus on Friday, April 22nd at AOC during 1st and 3rd-period classes with their senior teachers, Ms. Hoover, Mr. Frame, Ms. Scribner and the Principal, Dr. Fine.
Correction - 5/9 at 6:00 pm Senior Awards - Dr. Fine will be hosting an awards presentation for those receiving awards. This ceremony is by invitation only. If your student is receiving recognition, you will be emailed an invitation to participate and join us in person on campus at the University Center for the special award ceremony.
5/5 - 5/12 - Senior Final Exams - Each Senior will have an appointment time with their Senior teachers to present their Senior Capstone. It is a Final Grade Defense.
5/5 - Senior Dance - ASB will host its traditional Senior Dance at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex Recreational Center. More details to follow from ASB.
5/12 - Naviance Deadline College Status - Students are expected to (1)update college application results, (2) set "attending" school, and (3) complete Hart District Senior Survey (once it is available).
5/11 Academy of the Canyons Showcase (Open House) - This is AOC’s version of Open House. Please join us at AOC because Seniors will be presenting their Senior Capstone Project to our community.
5/12 - NHS Awards Ceremony (Students ONLY) - Students will receive their honor cords for graduation at this invitation-only ceremony and be recognized in front of their peers.
5/16 - ASB Senior Sunset Event - More information will be distributed by ASB. Students are not required to attend this event but are invited and encouraged to join their classmates for this special tradition.
5/16 at 11:00 am - AOC Commencement Ceremony Rehearsals, Graduation Caps & Gowns, and Graduation Tickets Distributed - ALL Seniors must be present. All school textbooks/indebtedness must be cleared, to receive their graduation tickets. ALL seniors MUST participate in the rehearsal. Appropriate foot attire is required. Students should park or be dropped off in the parking lot in front of the Performing Arts Center (PAC). In order to receive graduation tickets, students must be in attendance for rehearsals. More details on the number of tickets per graduate and RSVPing instructions to come. Students MUST have their AOC IDs to pick up their cap and gown.
5/17 at 6 pm - AOC Commencement Ceremony in COC Performing Arts Center (PAC)
5/26 - Yearbook Distribution & All School Celebration 11 am - 1 pm - Yearbooks will be distributed & seniors will participate in a school-wide celebration.
5/29 - MEMORIAL DAY HOLIDAY - No School for AOC or COC.
5/29 - 6/1 - COC FINAL EXAMS - College finals are administered on the last regular class meeting day unless otherwise scheduled by the instructor. They are given the last day of the student’s class.
6/1 - Google Accounts-Must complete before you graduate - Google accounts will be deactivated for all graduating seniors. If you would like to keep your files, you need to transfer/migrate files to your own personal email accounts.
6/2 - Traditional COC Commencement Ceremony - AOC students receiving AA degrees are invited to participate in this commencement ceremony. More details are to be provided by COC.
Additional Important Details about Graduation -
- Graduate Ceremony Attire - Cap and gown are required for all graduates. Please, no jeans, no tennis shoes nor sneakers. Students will not be permitted to bring cell phones into the ceremony. There will be a security team performing a search on all students prior to entering the student staging area. All guests must have a ticket for entry. And, all guests must follow COC health and safety guidelines.
*****Parking - Parking permits are not required. Students must report to the COC Performing Arts Center (PAC) upon arrival for the ceremony. More details will be provided about parking.
- Tickets and Seating - Tickets ARE required. Tickets will be given to students after the graduation rehearsal. Seating cannot be reserved and is on a first-come-first-served basis. Guests are not permitted in the graduate seating area at any time before or during the ceremony. Please be advised that we will be indoors in an air-conditioned venue. Please notify us if you or a family member require seating in a handicap chair ([email protected]). We will make arrangements to arrange special seating accommodations. Doors will open no earlier than an hour prior to graduation.
- Photography - A photographer will be at the stage taking pictures of each graduate as the diploma is awarded. Photo proofs will be available online. Please remain in your seats as your graduate is called.
In advance, thank you for assisting us with maintaining our tradition of a dignified ceremony in which all of our graduates and their families can enjoy the respect they deserve. No air horns, beach balls or other distractions will be allowed at the ceremony. A security team will be present at the COC Performing Arts Center (PAC).
