As part of the District Wellness Initiative and in conjunction with the SOAR (Students Off and Running) program, Wellness Centers and Wellness Site Coordinators are promoting "Strides For Wellness Challenge" to Hart District students and staff. The primary goal of this initiative is to familiarize students with the services offered by the Hart District’s recently instituted Wellness Centers, incorporating a five-week physical fitness and wellness awareness program underlining the importance of nutrition; physical activity; rest; and stress reduction in maintaining balance and social-emotional health. At its core, the Strides for Wellness Challenge is a short term, physical fitness challenge designed to get kids and staff moving. The program highlights the significant health benefits associated with even moderate physical exercise, specifically walking, running, but also includes cycling, skateboarding, dancing, snowboarding, and circuit training. The challenge pairs the ‘Endomondo’ fitness application with an adapted version of the Jeff Galloway run-walk-run training method. During the five-week challenge window from January 20th to February 23rd 2020, participants will complete a basic physical fitness program, accomplishing light aerobic activity goals at a minimum of 3 times per week for 45-60 minutes while gaining awareness with regard to social-emotional health and other holistic topics using a ‘Wellness Passport’ provided by the Hart District Wellness Centers and its Wellness Liaisons.
