U.S. Government (Period 3)

Course Description

This semester, we will study the Constitution, three branches of government, federalism, voting, and civic rights and responsibilities. This class is intended not only to inform students about how government works, but also to encourage students to become active participants in the political system by using critical reasoning skills and improving your skills in reading, writing, and research. Accordingly, we will discuss controversial topics and current issues in class. Every effort will be made to present and discuss issues in a respectful, balanced way. Additionally, we will also watch films related to government that may be rated PG-13. All films are announced in advance, so parents may have their student opt out of viewing the film and complete an alternative assignment. Students in this class are also expected to complete assignments and activities using websites such as YouTube and Google apps. These sites must be accessed through your Hart District Google account. Appropriate use of technology is essential for success.
