April 2023
AOC families: These past few weeks, Ms. Grijalva has been working on your child's 23-24 AOC class schedules as well as on welcoming our Class of 2027! This week, we will begin working on including COC classes (since the Fall COC schedule has been posted). COC registration will be around May 16th, more information will be provided once we get closer to that date.
Please remember, if students have questions, Ms. Grijalva has walk-in hours during lunch and after school. Students can also schedule appointments via calendly at calendly.com/dgrijalva. See below for more grade specific reminders or information.
9th Grade Students
- 9th grade students, Ms. Grijalva will continue working on your AOC/COC 23-24 schedules. They will not be available to you until the week of April 25th as it takes time to include all your COC classes in your schedules.
- 9th Grade students and families get an early start on the college search by attending the NACAC National College Fair at the Pasadena Convention Center. This in-person event will be held on April 27th from 6:00-8:30pm. Registration is required: https://www.

10th Grade Students
- 10th grade AOC class schedules are available as of 4/17. They will be handed to students during Advisement on 4/17. Students will begin choosing COC sections during this time as well.
- Students taking H Geometry over the summer: Families should have received an email with the subject line “WSH Summer School Registration” from OFL with registration information. The HGEO class is via the William S. Hart District, however, during the summer the district partners with OFL to run summer programs. Please make sure to complete the steps outlined in the email to complete your HGEO registration. 11th Grade Students
- 11th grade AOC class schedules are available as of 4/17. They can be picked up at Mrs. Perkins' desk. This week students will also make COC class requests via Google classroom.

Please remind your children to complete the google survey posted on google classroom by 4/19.
12th Grade Students
- Seniors have until May 1st to make their college decisions. May 1 is commonly known as "Decision Day" in the United States, and it marks the deadline for high school seniors to inform colleges and universities of their decision to enroll or not enroll.
- If time permits, AOC encourages all students to visit campuses before committing to attend. April is when most campuses have welcome days for admitted students.
- If your child has decided where to attend already, please remind them to update their Naviance account to reflect their chosen college.
- Students and families still have time to submit the FAFSA. Visit https://studentaid.gov/
h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to complete the Free Application; If a student is choosing to use Canyons Promise at COC, a FAFSA must be submitted. As of today, 94% of our seniors have submitted a FAFSA, one of highest completion rates in our district. - Seniors, don't forget there are still scholarships available, please check Google Classroom for the latest one.

February/March 2023
AOC families: These past few weeks, Ms. Grijalva has been meeting with all of the 10th and 11th grade students. Meetings will continue until March 10th. With the help of Advisement teachers, we have completed the paperwork for those students taking COC Summer Classes. After March 10th, if students want quick check-ins they can book another appointment or use walk-in hours Monday-Thursday from 11am-12pm. See below for more grade specific reminders.
9th Grade Students
- 9th grade students can NOT take COC summer classes. This is not part of the agreement with COC and AOC.
- 9th grade students can take College and Career Readiness classes through the Hart District. More information will be available on March 1st on the district website https://www.hartdistrict.org/
apps/pages/summer-school . Should your child want to take a CCR course, please have them see me. Classes take place all of July. - Those currently enrolled in AOC's HA2T class have an
opportunity to take a summer Geometry class (based on math department recommendation and STEM interest.) An email invitation will be sent by Friday, March 3rd. If invited, the class will take place in July. It is online with online LIVE testing and commits students to taking higher level math courses at COC. This class is only for AOC students as the district does not have "get-ahead" classes over the summer. - 9th Grade students and families, do you want to learn more about the University of California system? Learn more by attending the UC for Everyone Zoom session on March 1, 2023 at 7pm. Registration is required. Register at https://connect.admission.

10th Grade Students/11th Grade Students
- Those students who submitted their summer requests and completed their CNF for COC summer classes will be registered by COC and me on Feb. 28th (Tuesday). For COC Summer classes, all students have to do is pay fees after 1pm via MyCanyons on 2/28.
- To pay fees: Once students see their correct classes on MyCanyons, they click on "My Billing" and then "Make a Payment"

12th Grade Students
- March is the month when the majority of college decisions begin rolling out. Good Luck!
- Students and families still have time to submit the FAFSA by the priority deadline of March 2, 2023. Visit https://studentaid.gov/

January 2023
Welcome back, AOC families. This semester Ms. Grijalva meets with all 10th and 11th-grade students from January 25th-March 10th. The appointment link will be available Monday afternoon. During these meetings, students will create/edit their AOC Education Plans that map out their AOC/COC classes for the next few semesters. I know many of you are making summer plans so please see below for some grade-specific information. Should students have questions, I have walk-in hours Monday-Thursday from 11 am-12 pm
9th Grade Students

- Appointments to meet with Ms. Grijalva begin on January 25th. During Advisement, students will be able to sign-up. These "Grijalva Appointments" are meant to create/edit their AOC Education plan.
- 10th grade students can begin taking COC summer classes this year. If a student wants to take a summer COC class, please make sure that they see me by Feb.10 so that we can plan accordingly.
- COC Summer Session dates are not published yet (usually there are 4 different sessions), if they follow last year's schedule it will be as follows. Class selection will be discussed during your child's "Grijalva Appointment"

12th Grade Students
- Ms. Grijalva will visit Advisement once a month to review college follow-up steps. The January visit was last week and a copy of the slides presented are available on the Counseling Google Classroom
- Mid-year reports are scheduled to be sent to colleges on January 28th.
- If you have not done so yet, don't forget to complete a FAFSA (the majority of 12th grade students have submitted an application already)
